Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy that uses burning moxa to stimulate the meridian points. While not as commonly used in the West, moxibustion plays an important role in TCM and is used extensively throughout Asia. It can be used alone or with acupuncture.
Moxa is made from dried mugwort (Artemisia argyi), a perennial herb native to China. Chinese mugwort is harvested in the spring and summer, then aged and ground. The ground herb is often rolled into a cigar-shaped stick that can be burned by Practitioners of TCM.
The heat feels pleasantly warm and penetrates deep into the body to promote healing. The burning herb is also very aromatic and calms the body. Moxibustion can be applied in many ways. Dr. Ren will determine the best application for your unique situation. In general, moxibustion dispels dampness in the body and stimulates qi. It is useful in treating many chronic conditions and yang deficiencies. It is also commonly used as a safe treatment for turning breach babies.
We provide TCM treatment for a wide range of conditions.
